Our challenge prompt today is:
Life with Headache and Migraine is tough. If you were the recipient of a million dollars, what would you do with it?

I have written a lot about dreams during this blog challenge and there have been many revelations made to me through doing so.  Having the opportunity to do amazing things for Migraine and Headache patients in the United States is one of those dreams/goals.  Last year for the Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge, one of the prompts was "If I Could Do Anything as a Health Activist".  If I were the recipient of a million dollars, I would be able to make the following things I wrote about last year a reality.

What would I do and how far would I go for raising awareness if I wasn't limited by my physical conditions or money?  Well, probably a lot and get pretty far doing it.  I have many great ideas in my head and a wonderful purpose to achieve them all.  For one, I would most definitely make a substantial donation to the Migraine Research Foundation which gives all funds donated directly to those seeking grant money for their work in the field of Migraine research.  I would also be able to do more in my journey to healing through naturopathic and holistic means.  Due to the fact that my insurance doesn't cover alternative medicine, all costs to my naturopath are out of pocket.  Thankfully, God has blessed me by sending me to a person who is sympathetic to my financial struggles and has become one of my most steadfast friends and supporters.  If I had a million dollars, I could most definitely afford to do more in that arena that my current financial situation allows, thus slowing my progress.

My most recent idea would be to start a non-profit organization here in my state of Virginia that would focus on women and families that live a life affected by Chronic Migraine, Migraine disease, Headache disorders, mental illness and other chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, CFS, and myofacial pain syndrome.  I would want to bring attention to the lack of affordable and attainable health care, resources, and access to complementary, holistic, and alternative medicines.  It's extremely important to treat the whole body and not having the right to see specialists in all areas of health care is a huge part as to why so many of us suffer so much.  There's only so much you can achieve when given so little to choose from.  I want to be able to change that for everyone who suffers from chronic pain.  No one should have to endure the stress of not being allowed to see a specialist who can present treatment options that can actually help them.  Nutrition should be an automatic part of healing any disease, illness or condition.  Mental health support that is geared toward chronic pain patients and their families should be openly available on a non-judgemental basis to help provide the tools needed to cope with this new life.  It would be a blessing if I can get this dream realized and eventually make it so that everyone in this country has these benefits.

If I stay positive, remain prayerful, and continue to believe in myself I am sure that somewhere down the road I can achieve most of these goals.  It may not be until my children are grown and out of the house, because having the responsibility of raising a family while struggling with chronic pain has definitely taken it's toll on me.  I would have more freedom to focus on my own endeavors because at the moment, my kids sort of consume my life (in a good way!).
